Another Crazy Internet Deal Involving the Oilers

It's that time of year where the Internet starts making up NHL rumors and it gets people excited for no good reason.

I was tweeted this rumor today and it really blew my mind. Where does this shit come from? My rule of thumb is if it sounds stupid, it usually is stupid. This rumor falls in that catagory.

Oilers trade Jordan Eberle, Devan Dubnyk, Ales Hemsky and the 2014 1st round pick for Buffalo Sabres Ryan Miller.

Hahahahahahahaha!!! Get bent!!!

The silly season gets sillier. Brutal.

Dion Phaneuf to the Oilers?

Bill Watters suggested that the Oilers could be interested in Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf.

I personally think it would be a nightmare to acquire a guy like Dion. He's not a fast as he used to be and he's been a minus player with the Leafs. Combine the fact that Watters went on to say nothing but negative stuff about Phaneuf, the Oilers don't need an over paid, head case.

Stay away from this player Edmonton Oilers.

Montreal Canadiens 2013

Hello, So far the Canadiens have addressed some major needs through the draft in which GM Marc Bergevin likes to build through, toughness, grit, scoring ability & character. The Canadiens made some moves, signing C/Winger Danny Briere to a 2 year deal worth $8M total (INC: NTC & NMC), Also bringing in George Parros from the Florida Panthers for some much needed toughness & someone to back Brandon Prust up in the fighting category.

Here I will go through my 2013-14 Canadiens roster & lines, I will also include why I have these players together....

Forwards:
Line 1: Max Pacioretty-Tomas Plekanec-Brendan Gallagher
Line 2: Alex Galchenyuk-Lars Eller-Danny Briere
Line 3: Rene Bourque-David Desharnais-Brian Gionta
Line 4: Brandon Prust-Ryan White-George Parros/ Travis Moen.

Defense:
Line 1: PK Subban-Josh Gorges
Line 2: Nathan Beaulieu-Andrei Markov
Line 3: Raphael Diaz-Jarred Tinordi

Goaltenders:
Carey Price
Peter Budaj

Forward Line 1: Pacioretty-Plekanec had some chemistry when MT put them together before the palyoffs, Pacioretty the big 1st line PWF Habs need him to be could thrive being on a line with Gallagher & Plekanec, They could be quite the dynamic trio.

Forward Line 2: Galchenyuk-Eller had very good chemistry all year when Therrien put them together, Danny Briere a veteran scoring presence would bode very well for the two youngsters, could be a very lethal scoring threat.

Forward Line 3: Bourque showed flashes of brilliance last season, while Desharnais struggled to show up much after he got his contract renewed, perhaps playing alongside Captain Gionta would motivate him.

Forward Line 4: The toughness/grit line, not going to provide 10+ goals each but they will protect the Habs smaller stature players, Parros-White-Prust can all drop the gloves quite well, will provide a spark for the team.

Defense pairing 1: PK Subban & Josh Gorges have been the backbone of this defense core for the last 2 seasons, putting them together in the past has shown to be very good, their only getting better.

Defense pairing 2:  From the people I talked to, Nathan Beaulieu looked great at dev camp this week, He will provide a good spark alongside Markov, He will learn alot just like PK did, could be very good on the PP.

Defense pairing 3: Diaz showed he was ready to step up early in the year but got a concussion in which when he returned, he was not the same player as before, Tinordi however had all eyes on him & virtually ran away with the 6th defenceman job over Davis Drewiskie with some very steller play.

Goalies: Carey Price is the number 1 goalie by a mile on this team, however with Waite on as the Habs goaltender coach, he has the opportunity to take Carey Price to the next level, Peter Budaj will do another steller job as the backup.

Scratches: Travis Moen, Francis Bouillon - Healthy scratches, Alexei Emelin - Injured.

Powerplay #1: Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gallagher      Powerplay #2: Briere-Eller-Pacioretty
                             Subban-Markov                                                   Diaz-Beaulieu

4 man PP #1: Plekanec-Briere    4 man PP #2: Eller-Galchenyuk
                     Subban-Beaulieu                         Markov-Diaz

4 man PK #1: Plekanec-Bourque     4 man PK #2: Eller-Prust
                       Subban-Diaz                            Tinordi-Gorges

3 man PK #1: Plekanec    3 Man PK #2: Eller
                    Subban-Diaz                 Gorgess-Tinordi

4 on 4 lines: #1: Plekanec-Pacioretty  #2: Eller-Galchenyuk   #3: Briere-Gallagher
                         Subban-Gorges              Markov-Beaulieu        Tinordi-Diaz

Shootout lineup: 1: Briere 2: Galchenyuk 3: Gallagher 4: Desharnais 5: Eller

New Sabres Rumblings

After a busy holiday weekend in the NHL the Sabres have made some rumblings. The Sabres aqquired  Henrik Tallinder from the New Jersey Devils for Riley Boychuk. This deal is mostly to help Tyler Myers who had his best year while paired with Tallinder. Myers best year was also his rookie year when he won the Calder trophy for Rookie of the Year. Now to the rumors. The Sabres apparently have an offer on the table for Jaromir Jagr. Jagr would get 5 million for 1 year. This signing would greatly help the young forwards on the Sabres, such as Mikhail Grigorenko, Marcus Foligno, and Tyler Ennis. Jagr could even help the young D that we have. Myers could learn a few things about working hard. The other rumor swirling around is Vanek and Stafford to the Blues for Oshie, Allen, Gardiner, and a 1st round pick. This would give the Sabres a lot to build for the future. Oshie will be apart of the young core for the Sabres future. Allen is top goalie prospect and Gardiner is a top center prospect. Also the Sabres already have 2 firsts next year so adding another first would give them a lot of flexibility in next years draft. All together it looks like we are going to have an interesting week.

Thanks for reading!

The Weekend It Was (Oilers Rumors)

Darren Dreger confirmed my info today by saying it was indeed the Canucks that was asking for the 1st rounder, 2nd rounder and a top prospect from Edmonton in exchange for goaltender Corey Schneider rather than it being an Oiler offer. Good to know one of my private sources was correct by saying the Oilers wouldn't pay that steep price and it wasn't MacTavish's idea.

--------------------------------------

The Sabres finally traded Andrej Sekera this weekend. The Oilers have had interest in trading for him in the past. After spending a year or more trying to get him, Sekera is officially off the market.

--------------------------------------

Paul Holmgren reportedly said the Flyers and the Oilers were never really close on a deal.

The original deal was Coburn for the two 2nd rounders the Oilers had with Paajarvi added to sweeten the pot after the Flyers said no. Hopefully they can work out a deal to acquire Coburn, but that last deal with Paajarvi would have been an overpayment in my opinion.

--------------------------------------

Cal Clutterbuck was also traded this weekend. Oilers tried hard to land him, but the Wild felt the Islanders offer was better. The Oilers had offered Pitlick and a mid pick. Rumor has it, MacTavish swapped out Paajarvi for Pitlick and that still wasn't good enough for the Wild.

Hopefully MacTavish can find some other players with his skill set.

--------------------------------------

The Edmonton Oilers selected...

7th overall - Darnell Nurse
56th overall - Marc-Olivier Roy
83rd overall - Bogdan Yakimov
88th overall - Anton Slepyshev
94th overall - Jackson Houck
96th overall - Kyle Platzer
113th overall - Aidan Muir
128th overall - Evan Campbell
158th overall - Ben Betker
188th overall - Gregory Chase
